The Reproductive Rights March took a reversible turn Tuesday night near Pershing Square, sparking a massive response from the Los Angeles Police Department.
Police issued a tactical alert for the entire city and set up firing lines to disperse the people.
A video from a mobile phone captured a moment when crowds appeared to be circling a Homeland Security car after they said he was driving near protesters in an aggressive manner. Crowds reportedly smashed the car window.
Chef Michelle Moore tweeted that there were reports of people in the crowd throwing stones and bottles.
As protesters marched down Hill Street, witnesses told CBSLA that some people smashed the front window of a Planet Fitness gym.
An abortion advocacy group hosted an earlier, peaceful rally and then marched without incident. It was after the peaceful rally that the disobedient behavior began with some of the crowd.
At least one employee was injured and an ambulance was asked for help.
As the crowds dispersed, the LAPD lifted its tactical alarm throughout the city, although it maintained a large presence in the city center to prevent any further incidents.
