David Cameron has accused Muslim groups criticizing the program to prevent extremism of “enabling terrorism” for supporting a review of the government’s strategy.
Entry in The times today, the former prime minister said the government had failed to address allegations that the program was Islamophobic. He added that those who refused to dispute the “lies” about Prevent were “guilty of” passive tolerance “in which society does not intervene in minority communities for fear of looking racist.”
His first intervention in counter-terrorism policy after he left No. 10 came before the publication of a review of Prevent by the Policy Exchange think tank. The scheme is accused of failing to stop terrorist attacks in recent years, including the assassination of MP Sir David Ames.
