David Letterman shared an unexpected announcement in connection with the incident with Dave Chapel during a comedy set.
The TV interviewer spoke at the Netflix joke festival in Los Angeles on Friday (May 6th) as he spoke about the time Chapel was attacked on stage.
Chappelle was on stage at the Hollywood Bowl on Tuesday (May 3rd) when a man “threw himself” at him. The attacker was detained by security and removed from the scene.
Police later revealed that the man, identified as Isaiah Lee, was armed with a replica of a pistol “capable of throwing a knife blade” when fired correctly.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, 23-year-old Lee was detained on $ 30,000 bail after being charged with assault with a deadly weapon. Chapel was not injured.
During Letterman’s set, the TV interviewer suddenly jumped up scared and ran to the side of the stage. When he returned, he said, “I’m sorry – I thought I saw a man coming here. So sorry. It was just a little worrying, do you understand what I mean? “
He then jokingly told the audience: “Out of respect for the people who come here, let me just say this: When the show is over, I will be in the lobby and if anyone wants to come and beat me, for God’s sake , get out. ”
Letterman asked, “How many of you would like to hit me right now?”

Until Letterman specifically named Chappelle, the video was uploaded to Netflix on social media with the headline: “David Letterman on the Dave Chapel incident.”
In response to the Chappelle incident, his spokesman called him “unhappy and disturbing”, but praised Jamie Foxx and Chris Rock for helping to “calm the crowd with humor” before he continued his set.

Rock later raised the question, “Was this Will Smith?”, Referring to the scandalous slap he received from the best male actor at this year’s Academy Awards. Viewers called the Netflix event “the wildest live show” they’ve ever seen.
Since then, footage of the attack and subsequent response from Rock has surfaced on the Internet.
