Dead sperm whale spotted near the Gulf of Portugal

There is a whale watching of different species in Conception Bay near the Gulf of Portugal.

The DFO says Tangly Whales, a group contracted by the DFO, received a call about a dead sperm whale floating in the Bay of Conception on the evening of June 2.

The Ministry of Fisheries says that at that time there were no indications of entanglement of the male whale and a navigation warning was issued for the sailors.

Sperm whales are deep-sea feeders and are not often seen on shore, although there have been some observations in recent years in Conception and Trinity Bays.

DFO says there are lobster pots in the area and the carcass may have become entangled after the animal died.
