Queues began to pile up on the M4 as drivers gathered on Good Friday roads. Approximately 4.62 million trips are likely to be made in the UK today, with another 22.48 million holiday weekends in what may be the busiest in years, according to the RAC.
There are also warnings that passengers at airports and train stations will have to wait in lines for hours. Many reported one-hour waits at Manchester and Birmingham airports on Thursday, while dozens of British Airways and easyJet flights were canceled in Heathrow.
Dyfed Powys police also said employees will have an increased presence in anticipation of holiday traffic. The force said: “We expect many people on the roads this weekend to travel to #enjoyDPP for the holiday. There will be an increased police presence on the roads to keep everyone safe. ”
Rail passengers have also been warned of further delays, as Network Rail is carrying out 530 engineering projects worth a total of £ 83 million over the weekend. These include the closure of the main West Coast line between London Euston and Milton Keynes for four days from Good Friday due to upgrades to the existing line and the operation of HS2.
