Denver Broncos to play Los Angeles Rams as part of NFL triplehead at Christmas

The reigning Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams will host the Denver Broncos on Christmas, the NFL announced on Tuesday.

The game for week 16 will be broadcast on CBS and Nickelodeon at 16:30 ET. This will be the second game of the Christmas Triple Header, which was announced by the NFL last month.

The game will face Los Angeles against longtime rival Russell Wilson, who played 20 games against Rams as a quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks. Wilson was sold to Denver in a blockbuster deal in March.

This will be the third consecutive year that the NFL has played on Christmas.

Last year, the Packers ‘Christmas victory over the Browns averaged 28.6 million viewers on Fox, making it the third most-watched game of the 2021 regular season. The Colts’ victory over the Cardinals averaged 12.6 million on the NFL Network, the second-highest watched game in the history of the network.

For the 16th week of the upcoming season, the league will have its regular match on Thursday night, December 22. Eleven games will be on Saturday, December 24, including a nightly game on the NFL Network. After the Christmas Triple Header, the week will end with a race on Monday night, December 26.

24 NFL games were played at Christmas, including two post-season games in 1971. The most famous game on December 25 was Miami’s 27-24 win over Kansas City in double overtime in the AFC division round that year.

The full schedule for the regular season will be released on Thursday, but the NFL has already announced several games, including the two-legged 2-week football game on Monday night and the 2022 International League Games.
