Jimmy blames Howard for the deaths of his brother Chuck, a former Howard colleague and close partner at Hamlin Hamlin & McGill (HMM). Chuck took leave from the company when he began to suffer from an illness, claiming he was sensitive to electromagnets, which prevented him from leaving the house.
After Howard forced Chuck to retire from the company, Chuck died of suicide in a home fire he set on fire.
For years, Jimmy wanted nothing more than a place at the table and to work at HMM. Not seeing his brother as good enough, Chuck prevented it. At that time, Howard respected these wishes.
In the fifth season, feeling responsible for Chuck’s death, Howard offered Jimmy a job at HMM after seeing the business he started building as Saul Goodman, but Jimmy was offended. Not only did it look like a pathetic hire, but it came a little too late.
Instead, Jimmy decided to dedicate himself to making Howard’s life worse and tarnishing his name. In the fifth season, he threw bowling balls at his car and sent prostitutes to obstruct the lunch meeting.
