The long-awaited PS5 upgrade for Disney+ launched today, allowing subscribers to finally stream in 4K HDR quality. One of the bigger complaints when Sony’s next-gen console launched was that the app for Disney’s streaming service technically worked backwards on the PS4, limiting output quality. This has now been fixed.
“A key part of our global expansion strategy is meeting consumers wherever they are, which is why we’re excited to enhance both Disney+ and Star+ for PS5 users,” gushed Jerrell Jimerson, EVP Product and Design, Disney Streaming. “The ability to support 4K HDR video streaming on the platform will also enhance the viewing experience for fans.”
If you already have Disney + installed, then you’ll need to head over to the Media tab on your PS5 home page and download the native client to experience the aforementioned benefits. However, it shouldn’t take you more than a Pixar short to get started, and it’ll be worth it once you witness your favorite movies and shows in all their 4K HDR glory.
