Eid al-Fitr LIVE as Muslims across Manchester celebrate the end of Ramadan

Blackburn Rovers is “the first football club in the UK to host Eid’s prayers”

A Manchester City football fan from Sudan, who recently moved to the United Kingdom, said he “now feels part of the community” after Blackburn Rovers hosted Eid prayers on the pitch.

Hundreds attended Ewood Park on Monday morning – Blackburn said it was the first time in the country that a football club hosted Eid prayers on the field.

Sudan-born Ahmed Khalifa, 37, who moved to Blackburn from the UAE about four months ago, said he was “so happy” to see so many people on the pitch at the Sky Bet Championship club.

“Eid for Muslims is something very special that brings all relatives together. “This time, especially for us, we miss our relatives very much,” he told the PA news agency.

“So it was a big job for us to have this group of people. I’m so glad to see all these people there.

“The people of Blackburn, they all seem like part of a community, but for me, coming new to this city… now I feel like part of the community.”
