Elon Musk confirmed on Friday that he rejected working with Bill Gates on climate change through text because Microsoft co-founder tore Tesla apart.
The texts suggest that the two billionaires will meet somewhere before Musk asks Gates if he still has a “short position of half a billion dollars against Tesla.”
Gates replied, “I’m sorry to say I haven’t closed it yet,” adding another text: “I’d like to discuss the possibility of philanthropy.”
Musk said he could not take Gates’ philanthropy on climate change “seriously, when you have a huge short stance against Tesla, the company is doing the most to tackle climate change.”

The billionaire from SpaceX on Friday night confirmed the authenticity of the screenshot of the text exchange, published by @WholeMarsBlog, who wrote “I have no idea if this is true, haha” and asked Musk about it.
“Yes,” Musk said, “but I didn’t spread it on the NYT.” They must have received it from friends of friends. I heard from a lot of people at TED that Gates still had a half-billion flaw against Tesla, so I asked him, so it’s not exactly top secret. “

The shortening means that the investor borrows shares on the assumption that they will fall, winning them.
Musk also trolls Gates with a vulgar tweet on Friday, comparing a photo of Seattle to the emojis of a pregnant man.

It seems that the New York Times did not report on the texts at the beginning of Sunday.

Tesla’s CEO did not say when the exchange took place and it is not clear where the screenshot came from.
Gates has not yet commented publicly on the lyrics.
The two businessmen have quarreled in the past.
