A man and his son, accused of killing two Metis hunters, pleaded not guilty.
The trial of Roger Bilodo and his son Anthony Bilodo, who are charged with two counts of second-degree murder, has begun.
A prosecutor said in introductory statements that the Crown would claim that Bilodo had followed Jacob Sansum and his uncle Maurice Cardinal on a country road near Glendon, northeast of Edmonton, in March 2020, and shot them after a confrontation.

The crown told jurors that the two men were hunting in the area earlier in the day, and Bilodo suggested they were trying to steal from them while driving past Bilodo’s home.
Lawyer Jordan Krear said the autopsy found that Sansum had been shot once in the chest and the cardinal had been shot three times in the shoulder.

The trial is taking place in Queen’s Bench Court in Edmonton and Judge Eric McLean is overseeing the matter.
