West Kelowna firefighters put out the blaze north of Rose Valley on Tuesday afternoon.
Crews contained a small forest fire Tuesday afternoon in West Kelowna.
The West Kelowna Fire and Rescue Service said they were called to the fire shortly after 3pm in the Petterson Road area north of Rose Valley Dam.
Upon arrival, firefighters found a second-tier wind-powered fire (a low-power surface fire) that burned up in Crown Land and away from structures. The crews maneuvered 2,500 gallons of pump / water tender on site on a nearby dirt road and quickly put out the fire.
Handguards were then dug around the perimeter of the 50×30-foot fire. The teams will stay on site, completing the cleaning by evening.
BC Wildfire Service supported the battle with the original Penticton attack team. WKFR says they responded with three engines, a water tender and a command unit.
“Conditions are unusually dry at this time of year,” said Assistant Fire Chief Brent Watson. “WKFR reminds residents to be extremely careful in the woods and along the urban interface of the wilderness, even at this early stage of the fire season.
WKFR did not comment on the possible cause of the fire.
