Days before the expected provincial election in Ontario, Liberal leader Stephen Del Duca suggested that a joint statement between Prime Minister Doug Ford and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was a halt to the campaign rather than an act of government.
On Monday, Trudeau and Ford shared the podium to announce a joint investment of more than $ 1 billion in the production of electric vehicles in Brampton and Windsor.
However, before the announcement took place, Del Duca suggested that Ford’s motives were not true.
“I suggest the prime minister is in power, but Doug Ford is campaigning. “Honestly, Doug Ford has been campaigning for more than a year, instead of doing the hard work that Ontario residents demand of him,” Del Duca told an unrelated press conference on Monday.
Trudeau rejected the suggestion that the appearance of the two leaders standing side by side should become his support for Ford’s provincial election campaign. Instead, he said he thought it was unfair to delay their announcement.
“We have been working tirelessly for many, many, many months. And that’s good news that I know the Windsor people wouldn’t want to wait another day. That’s an important message, “Trudeau said.
Ford reiterated this view and ruled out the possibility that this joint statement was a political ploy.
“I am not interested in political stripes. People expect us to do it. We are doing it. And people will decide on the second of June, “Ford said.
Although the prime minister has not yet called for an election, Ford is expected to do so within days, as the June 2 voting date is only weeks away.
