Forest fires broke out near Glasgow’s commercial park amid rising temperatures

Forest fires have engulfed land near a shopping park in central Glasgow.

The flames scattered pastures near the Great Western Retail Park in Drumchapel at 3:47 p.m. on Friday, April 23.

This comes after the Scots were warned that there would be an “extreme risk” of forest fires amid warm weather this weekend.

Footage from the scene shows the flames spreading in the area as thick pockets of smoke rise into the sky.

A firefighter was called in the incident while firefighters worked to successfully extinguish the flames.

No casualties were reported.

This comes shortly after the Scots were warned to be “most careful” this weekend if heading to the countryside.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) has issued a warning that fires can catch fire and spread easily if warm and strong winds are forecast.

The warning – which covers the north, central and western parts of Scotland – will be valid until Sunday, with an “extreme” warning for the western part of Scotland on Monday.

Group Commander Keith Langley, a tactical adviser to SFRS Wildfire, said: “The key issues for the next few days are sun, warm air, low humidity and moderate to strong winds.

“Dead grass, leaves, twigs and heather on the ground will dry quite quickly under these conditions and when ignited can burn very quickly with extreme intensity of fire.

“Please be careful outdoors to avoid fires and think twice before using something that involves an open flame.”

An SFRS spokesman added: “We were alerted at 3.47pm on Friday, April 22, about reports of burning grass at Clydebank.

“Operational control mobilized one device, and firefighters extinguished a lawn.

“There were no reports of casualties or other crews after making sure the area was safe.
