An unfounded rumor that Judge Samuel Alito has been moved to an “undisclosed location” seems to be returning to a Fox News guest. Republican lawmakers are struggling with that anyway.

The rumor seems to have started with Georgetown University professor Ilya Shapiro, who started making the lawsuit last week amid coverage of a leak from the Supreme Court, which seems to indicate that the court is ready to overturn Rowe against Wade.

On a DC radio show, Shapiro said he “heard a rumor that Judge Alito and his family had been taken to an undisclosed location,” according to The Washington Post. He then repeated the statement to Fox News, telling the network: “I heard that Judge Alito was taken to an undisclosed place with his family.”

Shapiro told Politico on Monday that he was not sure if the rumor was true.

“I have no non-public sources,” Shapiro told the paper. “I forgot if I saw the rumors on Twitter or if someone told me. I do not know.”

The Supreme Court has not commented on the issue, Politico reported. A Fox News spokesman did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment.

Nevertheless, Republican lawmakers have taken up the case.

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz tweeted in response to the baseless allegation, saying, “Shame. And Biden’s White House is encouraging this illegal intimidation of the crowd. “

“Government officials should never fear for their safety when they do their job, certainly not in America,” Utah Sen. Mike Lee later wrote on Twitter.

As protesters gathered before the Supreme Court last week, abortion advocates also raided associate judge Brett Cavanaugh’s home last weekend. Among them was a neighbor who organized the protest. The protesters later moved into the home of Alito, the author of the expired draft opinion.

The White House issued a statement saying President Joe Biden “firmly believes in the constitutional right to protest.”

“But that should never include violence, threats or vandalism,” tweeted Jen Psaki. “Judges play an extremely important role in our society and must be able to do their job without worrying about their personal safety.”
