Gatwick Airport queues update for Thursday, June 2

The airport said it expects today to be very busy, with more than 700 flights scheduled to take off.

A spokesman said: “The airport is operating normally today, but will be occupied by about 733 flights. We continue to advise passengers to arrive at the airport as soon as check-in for their flight opens. This is usually three hours for long distances and two to two and a half for short distances.

“At 8.30 there were no security queues at the airport in the North Terminal, 10-minute queues in the South Terminal. The accommodation areas are occupied, but there are no significant queues. ”

The airport said the airlines were responsible for flight schedules and handling passengers in airport check-in areas, departure gates, and loading, unloading and returning luggage to passengers.

Airports across the country are facing huge queues after the removal of Covid travel restrictions. The pandemic has a huge impact on airports in two ways.

In the short term, current levels of staff illness are higher than normal, but in the long term, thousands of aviation professionals have left the industry, taking with them everything from decades of experience to security clearance.

British Airways and easyJet are two airlines that have had widespread cancellations in recent months.
