The good news for Pearson Airport in Mississauga and passengers is that business is booming at the airport again, as travel restrictions related to COVID-19 have been eased or removed.
Not so good news, but for the most part inevitable, is that a close return to normalcy also potentially means longer trainings and waits at the airport.
While the number of passengers before the Pearson pandemic has not yet returned, the recent jump – especially the increase in incoming international flights – has created some long queues at the airport.
According to the Toronto Airport Authority (GTAA), which manages Pearson, the recent increase in the number of international passengers during peak travel hours has posed some challenges.
As some air travel restrictions related to the pandemic are still in place, the increase in passenger traffic has led to some longer-than-usual waiting times for passengers.
About 30,000 international passengers arrive in Pearson every day, and that number is expected to rise to 45,000 in the summer.
In addition, Sunwing Airline’s major technical problems last week, delaying tens of thousands of passengers by days, still affect Pearson travelers.
As always, airport officials urge frustrated passengers to be patient and ask for polite communication with Pearson staff.
Inbound passengers are also reminded that they still need to provide personal information through the ArriveCAN app before landing in Canada.
