Gillibrand says abortion advocates are in “the biggest battle of a generation”

“Each of us stands up, speaks, gathers, marches, talks to our constituents, raises our voices and their stories,” Gilibrand told CNN’s Jake Tapper in The State of the Union. “This is the greatest battle of a generation, Jake.”

“This is a key moment for advocacy and for not giving up. So, what I am doing, and what many of my colleagues are doing, I urge to vote next week,” she added. “We will be aggressive with all our colleagues and our Republican allies to vote for Rowe’s codification against Wade. We will not give up, we will never give up and we will continue to fight, and if the American people pay attention, this will also be on the ballot in November. “

A leaked draft opinion last week, written by Conservative Judge Samuel Alito, indicated that the court was ready to overturn Rowe and Wade in a Mississippi abortion law case. Senate Democrats plan to introduce legislation in the Senate this week to codify abortion rights. The bill, known as the Women’s Health Protection Act, will need at least 60 votes to overcome the Republican’s filibuster. In the evenly divided Senate, 10 Republican senators will be needed to vote on the measure if all Democrats vote in favor. This is not expected to happen.
