A leaked draft opinion last week, written by Conservative Judge Samuel Alito, indicated that the court was ready to overturn Rowe and Wade in a Mississippi abortion law case. Senate Democrats plan to introduce legislation in the Senate this week to codify abortion rights. The bill, known as the Women’s Health Protection Act, will need at least 60 votes to overcome the Republican’s filibuster. In the evenly divided Senate, 10 Republican senators will be needed to vote on the measure if all Democrats vote in favor. This is not expected to happen.
