We suspected that Google would release the Pixel Watch, but at best we had information in the form of rumors. Now the filing of a trademark provides almost confirmation that the smartwatch is coming, maybe even soon.
However, as always, accept this information with distrust. Until Google (or any company really) officially announces a product, anything can happen. It is known that Microsoft refused Surface Mini the night before its release, surprising viewers, as it was a well-known product that everyone expected to see.
Google is working with many companies to create Wear OS smartwatches, but is not currently producing any. Instead, he chose to focus on Wear OS software and allow other companies, such as Fossil, to create hardware. This is a tactic similar to the way Android started, but we ended up getting Pixel phones to show other companies the way.
Ever since it was announced that Samsung and Google have been working together to bring Wear OS to the Galaxy Watch series, the noise for the Pixel Watch has been growing. It is true that the rumors about Pixel Watch started years ago, but only now they have moved from possibility to almost certainty.
As noted by 9to5Google, the company has defended the name of Pixel Watch. The most surprising part of this information is that Google does not yet own the Pixel Watch brand. But with this move, the company almost confirmed its intentions. Although it is possible for a company to take a trademark and never use it (this happens all the time), combining this movement with other leaks in recent days suggests that a full launch is near. The trademark application is done in standard language, of course, but it tells us what we need to know.
The registration of the trademark PIXEL WATCH ™ is intended to cover the categories of smart watches; Cases adapted for holding smart watches; Wearable computers in the nature of smart watches; smart watch straps; smart watch bands.
Of course, it’s hard to say when Google will announce the Pixel Watch. And the trademark does not confirm any other details about the hardware or OS. But it’s probably worth following Google’s I / O developer event next month, as it has served as a place for hardware messaging in the past.
