Red Sox 0 Blue Jace 1
We are lucky enough to watch Alek Manoah every fifth day. Today was great again. 7 innings with only 3 hits allowed, 1 walk (and as Joe Sidal said, the walk didn’t have to be a walk, the pitch right in the bottom corner of the zone) and 7 outs. His fourth starts and he has a 1.44 ERA and 4 wins. 25 innings, at this speed, if he gets 32 starts, he will reach 200 innings. The result of the box says that he had 2 groundings and 8 take-offs, but not many hits on the wall (although Raimel Tapia made a very good catch-up on the fence in the sixth inning).
Unfortunately, insultingly, we did almost nothing. There were only 6 hits and 3 walks (only 4 outs), but very lightly hit balls, medium flies and soft ground.
One of our rounds came with some help from the Red Sox defense. In the third Lourdes Gurriel made a mistake by Christian Arroyo in a short. Nice of the Red Sox to sit on Xander Bogaerts today. Tapia left, and then Alejandro Kirk grounded a single in the left field (listed at 106.2 MPH, so it’s not cheap), scoring Lourdes.
Kirk was the only Jay to score two goals today, adding a single in the field outside the pitcher in the eighth inning.
The holster is done again today:
- Adam Simber was 3 up 3 down eight. His third catch of the season.
- Jordan Romano gave up a hard hit single (and a line drive, a hard hit Lourdes caught that left). And he hit Jackie Bradley Jr. to finish the game. With JD Martinez on the bench, why would he let Bradley get out of the game? Romano received his ninth rescue in April. This is pretty amazing. If the season didn’t start a week late, I would check to see if this was the most save for Jace’s pitcher in April.
Jace of the day: Manoah (.458 WPA), Romano (.160) and Cimber (.119). I will give Kirk an honorable mention of driving in our solitary running and catching the lockout. There have been many complaints about Kirk’s defense, but he seems to be doing a great job behind the plate.
Without Suckage Jays. Springer had a low score of -.080 for his 0 for 3 a day walk.
Tomorrow begins a series of three games against Astros (again). Jose Urquidi (1-1, 5.52) against Yusei Kikuchi (0-1, 3.75).
Jace has yet to lose two games in a row this season.
