Gun violence continues to affect Easter weekend in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) – Police are investigating a double shooting on Saturday in which one person was seriously injured in South Philadelphia.

The incident happened shortly after 5 pm on Snyder Avenue and S. Opal Street.

Police say a 21-year-old man was shot several times in the torso.

He was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he later died of his injuries.

“Given the ballistic evidence at the scene, it is clear that the shooter or shooters intended to shoot at the people who were hit,” said Inspector DF Pace of the Philadelphia Police Department.

Another 28-year-old man was also shot in the waist, police said.

He was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center and is in stable condition.

“Any case, obviously a murder, is a tragedy,” Pace said. “Even when there is a shooting and the person does not die, it is a life-changing event, and yet it is tragic.”

No arrests have been made so far.

This shooting adds to the growing list of violent incidents in the city.

Earlier in the day, a man in his 20s died after being shot in the head at Louncrest.

There was a double shooting in the Hunting Park, which led to the death of a 17-year-old boy.

“This is the biggest violence I’ve seen,” said Nneka Burnett, captain of the Oxford Circle.

Anyone with information about any of these incidents is asked to contact the police.
