Harry Maguire received a bomb threat to his home on Wednesday as Cheshire police launched an investigation and found that the Manchester United captain had been sent an email warning.
Police and an explosive dog visited Maguire’s home on Thursday afternoon, where he lives with his fiancée Fern Hawkins and their two children.
A Maguire spokesman said: “In the last 24 hours, Harry has received a serious threat to his family home. He reported this to the police, who are currently clarifying the case. The safety of his family and the people around him is clearly Harry’s number one priority. He will continue to prepare for the match this weekend [at Arsenal] as is normal and we will not comment on more details at this time. “
A statement from Cheshire police said: “Cheshire police were called on Wednesday (April 20th) to report a bomb threat at an address in the Wilmslow area. No evacuation was carried out, but as a precautionary measure, a police dog with explosives was present at the address this afternoon, Thursday, April 21, to search the gardens and the surrounding area.
Maguire has been abused by fans in stadiums and on social media for his form for United this season.
