Herschel Walker’s response to the shooting of Uwalde was inconsistent. So is his candidacy for the Senate

“What I love to do is see it and everything and things.”

Here is how Herschel Walker responded Tuesday night when asked about gun control after a shooter killed 21 people, including 19 children, at an elementary school in Uwalde, Texas, hours earlier.

The hollow inconsistency shown here is unfortunately typical of the man whom Republican voters in Georgia have just considered worthy of representing them in Congress.

Walker is best known for his Heisman Award at the University of Georgia, followed by a relatively poor career in the NFL. He did not do much, as this would mean that he would be a capable civil servant. However, he swore allegiance to Trump and flirted with the conspiracy theory that the 2020 election was rigged, which earned him the approval of the former president and his status as a favorite to receive the nomination.

Walker doesn’t have much in the past that portends a career in Congress, but he has a history full of red flags showing he’s unfit for office, which is probably why Republicans warn he has little chance of ousting the current senator. . Rafael Warnock in the general election this fall. Here is a short list of warning signs that Walker could be a disaster if he finds himself in Congress.

He is an obsessive liar

The few qualifications Walker may have for public service are largely fiction. The Associated Press reported last summer that although Walker has repeatedly claimed that his company employs hundreds of people, he earns $ 70-80 million a year and has a chicken processing department. None of this is true. The company named only eight employees when it applied for a Covid loan in 2020. Walker admitted in a lawsuit that the company brings in less than $ 2 million a year. He also does not own chicken processing plants; he licenses them only for his name. The Daily Beast reported last month that Walker also lied about owning the country’s largest upholstery business.

The story continues

Walker also lied about his academic achievements. CNN reported in April that although Walker has repeatedly claimed to be famous in high school and graduated from the University of Georgia in one of the first 1% of his class, there is no evidence that either is true. CNN even cites stories from the time when Walker said he maintained a B average in UGA and had a 3.0 GPA before his grades began to suffer. He never graduated after leaving school early to join the NFL Draft.

However, Walker’s most ridiculous lie may be that Trump never claimed that the 2020 election was stolen. “I have never heard President Trump say that,” he said.

He does not believe in evolution

It should come as no shock that Walker did not finish at the top of the class, given some of the silly beliefs he expressed. He seemed confused about evolution, for example, during a church event in March. “Science once said that man descended from apes, didn’t he?” he said, “If that’s true, why are there still monkeys? Think about this.”

He imposed charlatan drugs on Covid

Trump once suggested that Covid could be cured by bringing “light inside the body.” Walker made such strange claims.

“You know, I have something like that right now [you can bring] in a building that will clear you of Kovid as you walk through this dry fog? he told Glenn Beck in the summer of 2020. “By the time you walk through the door, it will kill every Covid on your body,” he added, claiming the product is “EPA-approved by the FDA.”

Walker said “they” don’t want the public to know about the miracle spray.

He has a long history of abuse and threatening behavior

Walker spoke openly about his fight against mental health, writing in his 2008 book that he experienced violent urges. Walker has repeatedly described playing Russian roulette and threatening to physically injure his loved ones.

The Associated Press has uncovered court documents showing that Walker’s ex-wife, Cindy Grossman – who filed for divorce in 2001, alleging “physical abuse and extremely threatening behavior” – filed a defense order in 2005. against her ex-husband. She claims that Walker is unable to accept that he is dating someone else and starts calling his family members. Her sister said Walker threatened to kill Grossman and her new boyfriend, “stat.[ing] unequivocally that he would shoot my sister Cindy and her friend in the head.

The threats continued, as Walker told Grossman’s sister he wanted to “blow their fucking heads off.” He is also said to have collided with Grossman in a mall, during which he “slowly drove his vehicle,” he pointed to [her] and traced [her] with his finger while driving, “according to Grossman.

The defense warrant was issued and a judge temporarily barred Walker from possessing a firearm. When his book was released in 2008, Grossman developed the abuse of Walker in an interview with ABC News, claiming he held a gun to her head in 2001, saying, “I’m going to blow your fucking brains out.”

He was too scared to appear in the Republican primary debate

Walker withdrew from the Republican primary debate, choosing instead to stick to events in which he could control the story, while leaving Trump’s support to support the outcome of his election. “Herschel Walker ignores voters in Georgia and ignores us,” Agriculture Commissioner Gary Black said during one in May. “If he does it now, he will do it in the future.”

He will not admit that President Biden won the 2020 election

The main prerequisite for receiving Trump’s approval is the belief in conspiracy theory that the 2020 election was stolen. Walker has not criticized election fraud like some of Trump’s other preferred candidates, but he certainly does not admit that Trump lost to Biden. “I don’t know,” he told The New York Times when asked if Biden had won. “I think there were problems. And I think everyone else thinks there were problems, and that’s why everyone’s so upset right now. “
