Calgary police are warning the public that a high-risk criminal with a history of sexual abuse of minors has been released from prison after serving a two-year sentence.
Cyril Douglas Apetagon, 39, was released in the Calgary area late last week after serving a 24-month sentence for a night crime and breach of court orders, police said in a statement Friday.

Apetagon has previously been convicted of burglary and intrusion to commit sexual assault, access to child pornography, sexual assault and aggravated assault.
“Appetagon also has a history of sexual assault on minors and women who are known and unknown to it,” police said.
Police issued a warning in 2012, when Apetagon was released after serving four years for sexual assault and intrusion and intrusion.
He will be closely monitored by the Calgary Police Department’s high-risk offender program.
Police said the decision to issue the warning was made “after careful consideration and consideration of all related issues, including concerns about privacy, in the belief that it is clearly in the public interest to inform community members”.
“Members of the public have been informed that the purpose of the process is to enable them to take appropriate precautionary measures and not to take any form of vigilant action.”
Appetagon is five feet 10 inches tall, 175 pounds and has a medium build, black hair and brown eyes.
