In the first trailer for Thor Love and Thunder, lightning strikes twice

Jane Foster has always been more than Odinson’s love interest, but you may not know it just from watching one of Thor’s Marvel films so far – the last of which she simply did not participate. Thor: Love & Thunder wants to fix this and then some, judging by his first trailer.

For the most part, the first trailer for Love and Thunder is doing its best to catch up with what everyone did to Thor Odinson (Chris Hemsworth) since he and the other Avengers defeated Thanos in Endgame. After Crazy Titan was gone and peace was restored, Thor began working with the Guardians of the Galaxy, dealing with his depressive burdens, and doing the best of his life as one of the last living Asgardians. It’s not clear how much Thor will spend with the Guardians, but part of the Love and Thunder story seems to focus on Thor’s journey through space to meet other alien races like the Marvel Olympians.

Interestingly, Thor does not seem to have much interaction with the Valkyries (Tessa Thompson) and the other surviving Asgardians who are trying to rebuild their society in the Norwegian city formerly known as Tønsberg. As Thor sets out to explore space with Korg (Taika Vaiti), it seems that Valkyrie’s new position as leader of New Asgard has unexpectedly led to a life of bureaucratic work that keeps her out of battle. In stark contrast to Val and Thor, who seem to take a much calmer approach to things, the Love and Thunder trailer also features an updated Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who calls in Mölnir in the middle of a battle.

When we last saw this particular version of Jane (another recently appeared in “What If, Where She Was Voiced by Portman”), she and Thor were still in the midst of falling in love, Asgard was still standing and Thanos was still not devastated the whole universe. Love and thunder obviously attract elements from Jane’s time such as Thor and the only person capable of mastering Mölnir, which is an interesting piece of knowledge to bring her back to the movies. Given that Love and Thunder comes at a time when Marvel is moving all in into its multiverse, one of the great mysteries looming over this new Thor is who the universe is from and how it could affect her future at MCU. .

Thor: Love and Thunder is expected to hit theaters on July 8, 2022.
