Ipswich: delays in the town following the closure of the A14 at Orwell Bridge

There are long delays in Ipswich after the A14 was closed in both directions at Orwell Bridge.

Officers were called to a police incident just before 3.50pm today, October 4.

Following the closure, Suffolk Police urged motorists to find alternative routes.

As a result, there are long delays in Ipswich, with some traffic turning off the A14 and then encountering four-way temporary traffic lights on Wherstead Road.

The AA traffic map shows severe delays along Wherstead Road and Ipswich town centre, with 17 minute delays on Bridge Street.

There is heavy traffic along Gray Friars Road and Franciscan Way, as well as along Fore Hamlet and Felixstowe Road.

This could affect traffic to Ipswich Town’s home game against Cambridge United at Portman Road this evening.
