As the world of wrestling continues to react to the news that Jeff Hardy has been arrested for DUI, some are wondering about Hardy’s immediate future at AEW, especially this Wednesday night. It was announced last week that Hardy and his brother, Matt Hardy, will face The Young Bucks and Jurassic Express in a three-pole match, with the Jurassic Express AEW Tag Team Championships online.
Will the match happen anyway? A recent tweet from AEW suggests the answer is no. At 4:38 p.m. EST this afternoon, AEW released a tweet promoting Wednesday’s “AEW Dynamite” episode, including Ethan Page vs. Miro, Wardlow vs. 20 Guards, and Ortiz vs. Chris Jericho in a hair-to-hair match. However, the match with the triple ladder was no longer popular, although it was promoted two hours earlier.
Although not officially confirmed, the lack of AEW promotion for the match is the first indication that the match in the standings will be canceled or at least reworked. At the time of writing, neither AEW owner nor AEW owner nor CEO Tony Hahn commented on Hardy’s arrest.
Hardy has been out for several weeks after he was reportedly knocked out during Hardy’s match with The Young Bucks on AEW Double or Nothing. Matt and Jeff eventually won the match, settling for a future match for the AEW World Tag Team Championship in the process. Even before the match, there was speculation that Hardy had been hit after an intense no-DQ match with Darby Alin in the Owen Hart Cup tournament weeks earlier.
This is the third time Hardy has been arrested for DUI in the last three years. His previous arrest took place in October 2019 while he was still fighting for WWE, his second arrest for DUI in less than three months. Hardy reportedly performed an acoustic set and attended a wrestling congress just hours before his arrest early Monday morning.
