TOWIE newcomer Junaid Ahmed has revealed his story of dating football players, claiming that he always “gets closed boys”.

Junaid, best known for his role in Amazon Prime’s Lovestruck High, said he was “addicted” to football, but found it “sad” that people don’t feel comfortable going out these days.

The 27-year-old reality star is currently on the set of TOWIE in the Dominican Republic and is reportedly ruffled feathers with people like Amber Turner.

In an interview with The Sun, Junaid explained that he had not spoken to Amber since “so long” before revealing his love life: “I went out with footballers, at a lower level. A few football players, a few reality people, but I don’t kiss and talk.

“I always get footballers to glide in my DM and I always have closed boys – I’ve never dated a gay man in my life. I’m addicted to footballers, I love them, but it’s such a taboo.

“But it’s also sad – how are we in 2022 and people are not comfortable going out and being who they want to be?” I always tell them that I deal with violence on social media every day, and that doesn’t affect me in the least.

The Peterborough-born Junaid added that he “does not care about skin color or sexuality” and that diversity and inclusion must be demonstrated in both sports and television.

Junaid’s revelations come after Blackpool’s Jake Daniels appeared as a gay man in a television interview in March – becoming the only active openly gay professional player in the UK.

The 17-year-old is only the second British top-class footballer to come out and make the move in an attempt to tackle the scourge of homophobia in sport.

In his words, Peterborough-born Junaid, 27, added that “he doesn’t care about skin color or sexuality” and that diversity and inclusion should be demonstrated in both sports and television (pictured last month).

Jake “wanted to break the stigma” and became the only openly gay professional currently playing in the country, and the second in the world to be an innovative moment for men’s play.

Speaking in an interview with Sky News, he said: “I just worked and worked every day on how I want to do it, when I want to do it and I feel that now is the right time – you know I feel so I’m ready to tell people about my story.

“I want people to know the real me and lie all the time, it’s just not what I wanted to do.

“It was a struggle, but now I feel ready to be myself, free and just confident.”

Jake, described as the “inspiration for all of us” by the prime minister, was the first Briton in the men’s professional game to go public as gay after Justin Fashanou in 1990 at the age of 29.

He told Sky Sports: “It’s been a pretty crazy year. I am 17. I signed a professional contract. I scored 30 goals this season and just made my debut for the first team in the Championship, coming off the bench against Peterborough.

“And now I decided to go out. It all happened at once, but it feels right. When this season started, I just wanted to prove myself as a player. I think I have.

“So that was the last thing on my mind that I knew I had to do. Now it’s out and people know. Now I can just live my life the way I want and you know what? It was amazing.
