James Cordon will retire as host of The Late Late Show at the end of next season amid plans to spend more time at home in the UK, DailyMail.com can confirm.
The 43-year-old Briton decided to give up at the end of the eighth season, despite the best efforts of CBS executives, who exclusively told DailyMail.com that “they are desperately trying to keep him for longer.”
The star and his 10-year-old wife Jules are considering returning to the UK with their three children Max at 11, Kerry at seven and Charlotte at four, but are still trying to figure out what’s next for the family.
An insider told DailyMail.com that spending more time in the UK when the show ended was “definitely on the horizon”.
Another source suggests that he plans to move near London’s West Ham United Stadium in east London.
The Late Late Show, which is being shot outside of Los Angeles, was first presented in 1995 with host Tom Snyder. Craig Kilborn and Craig Ferguson followed as hosts until James Cordon came in 2015.
Cordon vowed to “come out with a bang” as he briefed audiences on his decision to retire as host of The Late Late Show.
Revealing the news during the last episode of the American talk show, he said the show had “changed my life” and promised that there would be “many tears” when his term ended.
“I started running this show seven and a half years ago and I can’t say it, it changed my life,” he said.
“I’ve never seen it as my final destination and I never want this show to interrupt the reception, I love doing it and I really think that in a year it will be a good time to move on and see what’s there. ‘
He added: “We are all determined to make this the best year we have ever had … we will come out with a bang.
“The fact that you’re watching this … all over the world … is an absolute privilege for me and every single person who does this show.”

Next move: Jules is considering returning to the UK with three children, Max, 11, Kerry, seven, and Charlotte, four, but they are still trying to figure out what to do.

He admitted that he wants to spend more time with his close friend Mark Noble, who is the captain of his favorite football team West Ham United. Noble is retiring at the end of this season.
“He’s happiest not to leave in September because he desperately wants to go out and play golf,” Cordon said.
“I will be here for eight and a half years, he has been in this club since he was nine years old. Nothing makes me happier to be thought of in the same breath as Mark Noble, but I would not deserve such praise.
But Cordon admits that leaving the show will be a bitter farewell for him.
“I’m going to miss the adrenaline of thinking, ‘I’m going to jump off a plane with Tom Cruise next week, or we’re going to drive around the White House in two weeks with Michelle Obama, or we’re singing Penny Lane with Paul McCartney driving on Penny Lane,'” he said.

An insider added to the DailyMail: “What’s next? Well, James is focused on creating a really spectacular current and final season of the show.

During Cordon’s tenure on The Late Late Show, he developed hit segments such as Carpool Karaoke, where he drove celebrities around and they sang together. Carpool Karaoke was later separated in its own show for Apple in 2017 and even won an Emmy Award. It is currently in its fifth season.
“He told us he had an incredible time and is incredibly grateful to CBS, but he thinks now is the right time to go high and make his last year the biggest so far,” a CBS source said.

The father of three had previously called his team on the show his family and even paid them out of his own pocket during the pandemic.

The segment, which includes stars such as Justin Bieber, Kendall Jenner and Chrissy Teigen, sees participants choosing to either answer a curious question or eat something called “rough”.
Several of the unpleasant objects came from Asian culture, and Cordon himself called many of them “disgusting.”
Last summer, a TikTok user launched the Change.org petition, which garnered nearly 50,000 signatures, and James later announced on the Howard Stern show that he would no longer use Asian foods in the segment.
