A Japanese news anchor was suspended while reporting on Russian President Vladimir Putin, who honors soldiers watching the Bucha massacre.
The TV presenter, identified as Yumiko Matsuo, is seen struggling with tears as she pauses for a moment in a viral video posted on Reddit on Wednesday.
“She had just shown videos of children hiding in the bunker of the Mariupol steel plant and was overwhelmed with emotion,” the Reddit / u / thefathermucker user signed the post.
“There are still many civilians in the bunker. I’m so sorry, I’m sorry … “Matsuo said as he tried to gather himself. The Ukrainian war has entered a new phase …
Matsuo announced the honorary title of “Guardsman”, which Putin awarded to the military unit that committed war crimes in the Ukrainian region of Bucha, where more than 300 dead bodies were found.
Putin praised Russia’s 64th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade for acting with “great valor and courage” and for “defending Russia’s sovereignty” in a signed letter on April 18.
“Through shrewd and courageous actions during the special military operations in Ukraine, the personnel of the unit have become a role model in the performance of their military duty, valor, dedication and professionalism,” the statement said.
Many Reddit users praised Matsuo’s courage in sharing her overwhelming emotion with the news report.
“It shows how deeply it resonates on a deep mental level,” said one user. “We all feel righteous anger and we want to protect each other.
“This is from someone in culture who is extremely good at covering up emotions in public,” another user replied.
“I lived in Japan for 1.5 years during the uniform and I have never seen a Japanese newscaster show any signs of emotion,” wrote another user. “I can’t believe how upset she was that she showed so many feelings on television.
