Jay’s Sandbar Food Boat capsized and sank in Florida

A popular floating restaurant overturned and sank in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on Sunday. No one was injured, but the owner of Jay’s Sandbar Food Boat said the ship was a “complete loss”.

The Fort Lauderdale Fire and Rescue Service said crews had responded to a signal for a sinking ship.

“Upon arrival, the crews found that the iconic Jay’s floating food truck was sinking rapidly,” the FLFR said in a statement. “The assessment of the scene showed that there were no casualties and immediate dangers to the environment.

According to owner Jeremy Like, the pontoon of the boat’s stabilizer has “broken”. A worker said that the trace of a passing boat was the reason for its breaking, CBS Miami reported. After the support broke, the boat capsized and sank in less than five minutes, according to CBS Miami.

Two people, a housewife and a cook, were on board during the sinking of the boat, Like told CBS News.

“Of course I’m devastated, but my crew escaped safely and no one was injured,” Like wrote on Facebook, adding that the boat sank in “only 4 feet of water.”

Jay’s Sandbar Food Boat was a popular floating restaurant that delivered food to boaters and jet skis in Fort Lauderdale. The boat has been in operation for three years, according to the owner’s Facebook post announcing the sinking.

“We will restore, somehow, now we must first remove her shallow grave,” Leake wrote. He told CBS News that he had suffered about $ 85,000 in damage, but hoped to restore the boat and open a ground location.

The FLFR said Lycke had contacted a private rescue company to return and retrieve the boat from the inland waterway “in the coming days”.
