Jeremy Clarkson will remain host of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? “Right now,” ITV boss Kevin Ligo said, slamming Clarkson’s comments about Meghan Markle as “appalling.”

In his comment, published on Friday (December 16), the 62-year-old wrote that he dreams of the day Markle is made to parade naked around Britain as crowds chant “shame” and throw “poop” at her.

Clarkson claims that “everyone my age thinks the same way”.

The Sun has since removed Clarkson’s comment from its website. “In light of Jeremy Clarkson’s tweet, he asked us to remove last week’s column,” the page now reads.

More than 60 MPs from various parties have written to the editor of The Sun to demand an apology and “action” against Clarkson. The SNP’s shadow culture minister also called for Clarkson to be banned from television entirely.

On Tuesday 20 December, Ipso confirmed it had received more than 17,500 complaints about the presenter’s column, more than the total number received in 2021.

Not on my behalf, Jeremy Clarkson

FYI Jeremy Clarkson, not everyone his age thinks the same way.

His latest desperate grab on appeal for his fast-fading star is unacceptable.

In keeping with his arrogance, he thinks that such immature, hateful and outdated thoughts are the norm in this age group.

Hoping that he is part of a dying breed is probably in vain. There will always be people who become disgraced based on transient popular appeal and whose “celebrity” and wealth gives them the false belief that they have an important role in society.

I would appreciate it if he could keep his disgusting thoughts to himself, writes our reader Jane Penson in a letter to The Independent.

Jeremy Clarkson remains Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? host for “the moment”

ITV boss Kevin Liggo said Clarkson’s comments about Meghan Markle were “appalling” but “at the moment” the broadcaster plans to keep him on as host of the show.

In a recent column for The Sun newspaper, Clarkson, 62, said he had a “hate” towards Meghan and dreamed of seeing her publicly humiliated.

Reminder of what Clarkson said

It’s been a few days since Jeremy Clarkson caused a media storm when he made disparaging comments about Meghan Markle in his column for The Sun.

Clarkson wrote that she despised the duchess “on a cellular level” and dreamed of people throwing “poop” at her in the street.

He also said he hates Markle, “not like I hate Nicola Sturgeon or Rose West”, but on a “cellular level”.

Following the controversy, shared on Monday (December 19), Clarkson wrote: “I made a clumsy reference to a scene in Game of Thrones and it went badly… I’m appalled that I’ve caused so much pain and will be more careful in the future .

ITV boss says Clarkson will stay Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? host for “the moment”

At a Broadcasting Press Guild event in London on Tuesday, ITV boss Kevin Liggo condemned Clarkson’s comments about the Duchess of Sussex but said there were no plans to replace him as host of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? “now”.

“I would say what he writes in a newspaper column … We have no control over what he says,” Ligo told reporters.

“… So it’s not exactly in our wheelhouse, but I don’t know what he was thinking when he wrote it. It was terrible.”
