Josh Brolin has been a big influence in superhero movies, as he is, but he’s thinking about one who got away with it.
The actor – known for playing Thanos in Marvel Cinematic Universe with Cable in Deadpool 2 – was a recent guest on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. During the interview, he discussed that he was in a dispute to play Batman for director Zack Snyder, before the director turned to Ben Affleck, who made his debut in the iconic role with “Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice” from 2016.
“It was interesting for me,” Brolin said of the prospect of playing Caped Crusader. He then stressed that he was eager to play the role if Snyder did not go the other way: “It was his decision – it was not my decision. That was his decision. “
The actor, who won an Oscar nomination for “Milk” in 2008, added that he especially liked the role because he likes to take on projects that involve some risk. “Something that is set up not to work at all or to work flying – I like those chances,” Brolin said. “I like playing with these chances. I ask myself, “Am I the one who will make this all fail?”
This discussion prompted him to elevate the role of George Clooney in the oft-ridiculed 1997 Batman and Robin, as Brolin said of the film’s critical response: “You’re talking to Clooney, and he’s still joking about it – and it’s not his guilt. “
The 54-year-old Brolin went on to say that the conversations he had about the role of Batman came before his work on Deadpool 2, which hit theaters in May 2018. “He will be older, more hoarse, for lack of a better word, “he said of his image of Batman. “Honestly, it was going to be a fun deal, and maybe I’ll do it when I’m 80.”
This is not the first time that the Outer Range artist has talked about approaching the desired concert. In 2018, Brolin told Comic Book Movie that everything turned out for the best. “I’m really glad it didn’t happen,” he said at the time. “I haven’t thought about it twice.”
Affleck, for his part, is expected to reprise his role as Batman in The Flash, which is currently scheduled for release on June 23, 2023.
