Andrew Burfield, 50, of Burnley, briefly appeared in Blackburn Magistrates’ Court on charges of killing Kenyon.
Burfield spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address during the three-minute hearing. He was remanded in custody until Friday, when he will appear in Preston’s court.
Canyon from Paddyham, Burnley, was last seen around 9:30 a.m. last Friday when she was believed to be traveling in a Ford Transit van that had left town for the Bolton-by-Bowland area of Lancashire.
Police searched Gisborne Forest, a remote beauty spot in eastern Lancashire, on Wednesday. More than 60 detectives from four police forces toured the dense forest area in search of Kenyon. The hunt involved police and firefighters, dog teams, horse police, mountain rescue volunteers and drones.
Kenion is described as white, 5 feet 9 inches, with shoulder-length strawberry / ginger hair. She was last seen wearing a blue shirt or jacket and a white cardigan top, black leggings and flip flops.
Her family, who say her disappearance is out of character, is backed by specially trained staff.
