Just before the release of DAMN, Kendrick Lamar released a song without an album called “The Heart Part 4”, the fourth in a long series of Lucy. And now, five days before the release of his apparent double LP Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers, Kendrick returns with “The Heart Part 5”. This is definitely a rare and funky piece that puts a bright light on the verse of K.Dot.
The song also comes with a video directed by Kendrick and Dave Free, which is just a close-up of the very long-haired Kendrick rapping the lyrics, with one twist: In the course of the video, his face turns to other black celebrities, including OJ Simpson, Kanye West , Jucy Smollett, Will Smith and the late Kobe Bryant and Nipsy Hussle. It begins with a quote from his new alter ego ad: “It’s me. All of us. “See it below.
