Arizona Cardinals quarterback Killer Murray is adamant about signing a new contract before going on the field for the 2022 season.
Tom Pelisero of the NFL Network said Thursday that Murray is not expected to play unless he gets a new deal, according to sources informed of the decision.
The Cardinals have not yet made a proposal for a contract with Murray, whose agent Eric Burkhard informed the team weeks ago that he was withdrawing his initial offer from the table, Pelisero added.
It was a drama-filled off-season season for Murray and the cards, beginning after the Pro Bowl, when Murray wiped out the Cardinals’ photos on social media. The team responded in kind before the parties could reconcile later, hoping to move forward. Murray said last month that he was not worried about his future as a cardinal.
However, as there were obviously no steps towards a new deal, Murray is ready to earn about $ 5.5 million in the fourth year of his rookie contract.
The 24-year-old two-time Pro Bowler got off to a hot start in 2021, looking like an MVP candidate before being injured, forcing QB to miss three games. Murray and Cards fought on the road, returning to the postseason and were defeated in a Super Wild Card round by eventual Super Bowl champion LA Rams.
After watching Aaron Rodgers, Deshon Watson, Matthew Stafford and Derek Carr sign contract extensions of $ 40 million or more a year last month, Murray is demanding his salary.
The cardinals have insisted that they do not plan to exchange the former number 1 as a common choice, so we may have a long match ahead of us, which is headed to the training camp at the end of July.
