An evacuation alert has been issued for the Sicamous Creek mobile home park.
The Sikamus and Shushuap County Emergency Programs say the threat of a landslide near Wiseman Creek is increasing and could pose a risk.
Due to a potential danger to life, health or property, the evacuation signal is valid for all homes, numbers 1 to 27, in the park for mobile homes on Highway 97A.
A geotechnical engineering report released last month concluded that the probability of a landslide following last summer’s fire on Two Mile Road is almost 100% certain.
Columbia Shuswap County is working on an early warning system for landslides and possible debris flows in the area.
Landscape damage from a fire last summer left the slopes above the mobile home park unstable, the report said.
The warning is intended to give residents time to be ready for a possible evacuation.
“Residents will receive as much advance notice as possible before the evacuation, but may receive limited notice due to changing conditions,” the area said.
Residents must have bags ready to pick up and set off.
Collect basic items such as medicines, glasses, valuable documents and urgent care needs for addicts.
Make sure you have enough clothing and contingencies for a period of 72 hours and have these items available for quick departure.
Accommodation in the area may be limited. Arrange to stay with family or friends, if possible, advise the area.
