Many people were shot at a subway station in Brooklyn_1.mp4
A search is under way for the shooter who opened fire on a subway train in Brooklyn during rush hour on Tuesday morning.
The chaos took place at 8:24 a.m. on train N, traveling to Manhattan, when the suspect suddenly put on a gas mask and opened a gas box in the car, police said.
As the car filled with smoke, he opened fire, shooting 10 people inside and on the station platform as the train stopped at 36 Sunset Park Street.
Sixteen people were injured in the attack and all are expected to survive.
Almost five hours later, the suspect – described as a black man, 5’5 inches tall with a heavy physique and wearing a green construction vest and a gray sweatshirt – remained on the run.
Officials initially said unexploded ordnance was found at the scene and early reports suggested there was an explosion, but police later said there were no known explosive devices in the city’s subways.
No motive was given for the attack, but authorities said it was not considered a terrorist act.

Security will be stepped up for the Boston Marathon because of the attack in New York, said the former police chief
Security is now expected to be boosted for the upcoming Boston Marathon in light of the New York subway shooting, according to a former police chief.
Ed Davis, a former Boston police commissioner, told CBS News Boston that employees are likely to increase the number of employees around transport hubs ahead of Monday’s huge annual event.
The Boston Marathon in 2022 comes nine years after three people were killed and about 260 were injured in a bomb attack at the event in 2013.
“It definitely changes the security position of everything that happens. “Since something like this has happened, police chiefs across the country are introducing different systems and tactics that they use to do two things: one is to make sure it doesn’t happen in their jurisdiction,” he said.
“They will monitor for any suspicious behavior, increase the number of employees in and around public transport centers, maybe even board people on some of the trains.
Mr Davis said one of the big concerns was that there could be copy attacks.
“There is a real reason why there may be copies or a larger conspiracy than New York alone. It is unlikely, but possible. But the bigger problem here is to reassure the public that they are safe. That’s really the role of the police at the moment: show a strong presence there and make sure people feel they can use the subway and other transport safely, “he said.
“Having the marathon so close in time, we will definitely fulfill the plan, it will change the number of people assigned to the event. I’m sure there are people who are holding emergency meetings right now as we speak in the light of this horrific incident that happened in New York.

Gov. Katie Hochul says New York is in “active shooter situation”
Gov. Katie Hochul said New York was in the grip of an “active shooter situation” as the shooter continued to flee to the Big Apple.
“Peace and normalcy were disturbed, brutally disturbed by a man so cold-blooded and corrupt in heart that he did not care about the people who attacked him while they were just going about their daily lives,” she told a late-morning press conference.
“This man is still at large. This man is dangerous. “
She vowed that New Yorkers stand together to demand an end to violence in the city.
“He is recovering well. He observes, is actively involved in the situation. “I wanted to let him know that people from all over New York State are with the people of this city, this community, and we’re not saying more,” she said.
“There are no more mass shootings. No more disruption to life. You will no longer create a heartbeat for people who are just trying to live their lives like normal New Yorkers. It must end and end now.
“This is an active shooter situation right now in New York City.”
