News has just arrived of huge clouds of smoke rising from the slopes of Cavehill in North Belfast tonight.
Concerns were voiced Wednesday night as city residents noticed flames and smoke rising from the hills. The fire was first spotted around 8.45pm on Wednesday night.
Two fire crews are believed to be present. A series of mountain fires followed earlier this year that devastated wildlife.
In a tweet, SDLP adviser Carl White said: “Gorsfire on Cavehill tonight with visible smoke and flames. I spoke to @NIFRSOFFICIAL on the spot – two crews are still present in the mountains, hoping to put out the fire.”
