Emergency services remain at the scene of a major M6 truck fire this morning, leaving an entire section of the northern lane closed.
A diversion route has now been set up for morning passengers, as crews remain at the scene between junctions 17 and 18. Four engines from stations around Cheshire were sent to report a “big vehicle on fire” just before 4:10 a.m. this morning. morning morning.
The Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service sent two crews from Crewe, one from Sandbach and one from Holmes Chapel, to the scene – who saw the fire spread to nearby trees. At 4.40 am, the service said that the fire affected “an articulated trailer that is well lit”. The trailer was in the ditches and nearby trees were also affected.

At 5.15 am, the service issued an additional update. A spokesman said: “Firefighters are still using a hose reel in this incident to completely extinguish the fire. Nearby wooded area is also included. Police have set up a counter-current system to allow firefighters carrying water to reach the area. To the north, the roadway remains closed until the accident is resolved. “
National Highways said the M6 north of junction 17 and 18 remained closed due to an “HGV fire”.
