There are long delays on the M61 this morning.
Huge queues were in place all morning on the south lane near Bolton after a crash around 7 a.m. that caused a “significant spill of hydraulic fluid”, according to Highways England.
Two lanes are closed all morning and the road is likely to need to be renewed. Traffic is currently in a queue of about three miles with a 45-minute delay, according to the Inrix Traffic Signal Service.

In a tweet, Highways England said: “2 lanes (out of 3) were closed on # M61 south between J5 (for #Bolton) and J4 due to a collision that led to a significant spill of hydraulic fluid.
“The road surface will probably need to be re-paved. There are just over 2 miles of traffic jams on the approach. “
Shortly before 9.30 am, a separate accident on the highway stopped traffic a little further down, between junction 6 and 5 on the southern lane. All lanes were reopened by 10 a.m., but long delays remain.
