GRANADA HILLS, LOS ANGELES (KABC) – Crews battled two fires burning along Highway 118 in the San Fernando Valley on Friday night, including one burning dangerously close to homes.

The California Highway Patrol closed several lanes on the east side of the highway near Hayvenhurst Avenue in Granada Hills.

Drivers should expect delays and look for alternative routes.

The fire broke out shortly before 9 pm. At least one decare burned, according to officials.

AIR7HD filmed a resident pulling out a hose and watering a tree near his home as the flames burned across the street.

Despite the 10 mph wind, dozens of firefighters were able to stop the fire in Granada Hills for an hour, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The agency also reported a second fire burning near Highway 118 and Reseda Boulevard at Porter Ranch. The fire broke out shortly after 8:30 p.m.

It took about an hour and 74 firefighters to stop the fire at Porter’s ranch, the LAFD said. No damaged structures.

So far, authorities do not believe the two fires are linked.

Firefighters will remain at the site of the two fires to “continue to control and repair,” officials said.
