CHARLETTE – Representative Madison Cotorne was quoted as saying he had a gun at Charlotte Douglas International Airport on Tuesday morning, police said.
According to the TSA, a 9mm pistol was found in a bag at checkpoint D and TSA officers contacted Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.
A photo received from Channel 9 shows that a loaded Staccato C2 was found at the airport on Tuesday.

Officers confirmed that the gun belonged to Cowthorne and said he had cooperated with police.
Cawthorn was cited for possession of a dangerous weapon in city property, which is an ordinance of the city of Charlotte.
The CMPD said it had taken firearms, which is normal procedure.

This is not the first time a gun has been discovered at Cawthorn Airport. In February 2021, the TSA found a 9mm pistol in Cawthorn’s hand luggage bag at Asheville Regional Airport. No criminal charges have been filed against Kotorn.
TSA discovered 106 cannons at Charlotte Douglas International Airport in 2021.
A Cawthorn spokesman did not respond to a request for comment.
