A 40-year-old man was abducted, flooded and “threatened to be set on fire” in Co Down.
A 70-year-old man was also attacked in an accident when another man tried to break into his home.
The attempted theft and abduction took place on King Street in Newcastle on Sunday evening, April 24.

PSNI Inspector Johnston said: “We received a signal shortly after 9:30 pm that a man in his 70s had been attacked and another man had tried to enter his home in the King’s Street area of the city. The suspect did not make it is inside and removed from the scene.
“It was then reported that a second man in his 40s, also in the King Street area, was abducted by two men and brought to a car park in the Oldtown Road area of Annalong after 9 p.m.
“The suspects demanded money before refueling and threatened to set it on fire. While the man is physically unharmed and has not been given money, he is understandably very shaken.
“Two men, aged 36 and 31, have been arrested and remain in custody at the moment.
“As we continue our inquiries to find out what happened, I urge anyone who has information about this incident to contact us. In particular, we want to hear from anyone who has been to the King Street or Oldtown Road areas after 9pm and you have noticed something unusual, including suspicious people, contact us by calling 101 and you cite reference number 1754 24/04/22. ”
