Known for his pace and impressive positioning, Malaysia is ready to strengthen United as a left back, and the other main options of the club are Luke Shaw and Alex Teles in this position.

Malaysia has five senior games for the Netherlands, having previously represented its country at various youth levels.

A product of Feyenoord’s academy, he played in 136 games for the club and won the KNVB Cup in the 2017-18 campaign.

The 22-year-old was in the line of sight of United through this window, but was ready to join French Lyon, as the club of Old Trafford focused on its candidacy to sign Frankie de Jong.

United are still looking for a deal for Malaysia’s international counterpart De Jong.

De Jong has been Ten Hague’s main goal since taking over United, having previously worked together at Ajax.

Sportsmail sources said that the deal between United and Barcelona for De Jong was completed at “90 percent”, leaving only the finer details for completion.

There is optimism that the transfer will be completed this week. United will pay the Spanish club’s initial £ 55 million for De Jong, a fee that could rise to nearly £ 70 million.
