United unhappy with four VAR decisions against Arsenal

Ralph Rangnik has called into question the referee and the VAR over four decisions during Manchester United’s 3-1 defeat to Arsenal.

United were denied a penalty when Cedric Soares lost to Arsenal 1-0 and Cristiano Ronaldo scored his second goal for offside at 2-1. Rangnik suggested that the offside line was not decisive for finding Ronaldo offside.

Rangnik also noted that Eddie Nketia was offside when he was directly in David de Gea’s eye line when Granit Jaka hit the clincher in the 70th minute.

“There was another handball problem in the first half, Jaden Sancho was involved,” said Rangnik. “Cristiano’s second goal was not offside and you can even see it in this overall perspective in exactly one line. I just saw him right after the game and if this is the right picture, and I guess they showed me the right picture, you could see it. It was obviously one line at a time.

“Their third goal was obviously offside, I talked to David de Gea after the match and he told me he just couldn’t see the ball because Nketia was between Granit Jaka and him. They checked it out, but for some reason they did.

“Anthony Elanga was hand in hand [Tavares], the other player with him. At least it’s questionable, too. The other three situations were clear. That’s why we have a VAR and you have to expect a VAR plus a referee, if they check the situations, they come to the right decision. “
