May begins with violence in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Florida – When the new month began, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office responded with three shootings and one stabbing across the city. Three of the four reported incidents resulted in deaths.

At 10:17 p.m., officers responded to a call from a man stabbed in Waterbluff’s 2600 block. At the scene, officers found an unresponsive elderly man bleeding, JFRD pronounced him dead at the scene.

At approximately 11:40 p.m. on Saturday night, officers were sent on a signal for a man shot in block 5400 of Kennerly Rd. At the scene, police found a man in a car who had been shot. JFRD responded by declaring him dead at the scene.

Early Sunday morning, around 1:44 a.m., officers responded to a man shot at 4,200 Moncrief Rd. W. There the JSO found a man who had been shot in the leg. He was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

At 2:30 a.m., the JSO responded with a shooting at the Raceway gas station on Lem Turner Road. The JSO said it found a woman dead from a gunshot wound. Police believe the shooting took place in the parking lot, but do not know the circumstances.
