McNally High School: Second-degree murder charges against youth

Seven young men, including two 14-year-olds, have been charged with second-degree murder after a 16-year-old student died of a stab wound last week.

Karanvir Sahota was attacked in front of McNally High School on April 8 and died of his injuries a week later.

An autopsy on Wednesday found that the cause of death was a stab wound to the chest.

On Friday, the Edmonton Police Department announced charges of second-degree murder against a 17-year-old woman, two 16-year-old men, two 15-year-old men and two 14-year-old men.

The group was initially charged with attempted murder, but the charges improved after Sahot’s death.

The 17-year-old woman has also been charged with obstruction.

“The victim and the suspects were acquainted with each other and it is believed that this incident is an escalation of violence between two warring groups,” EPS said in a statement.
