Met Gala 2022: Blake Lively, Mindy Kaling and Sean Mendes shine in gilding

The biggest fashion night is back to regular programming this year – and the look was as extravagant as ever.

After an irregular two years in which the event in 2020 was canceled and the event in 2021 was postponed to September, the Met Gala returned to its usual place on the first Monday in May.

The gala concert is an annual fundraiser for the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the guest list is full of movie stars, fashionistas, athletes, entrepreneurs and social figures.

The co-chairs of the evening were Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, Regina King and Lynn-Manuel Miranda. For the second year in a row, honorary co-chairs are designer Tom Ford, Instagram CEO Adam Moseri and – as has been the case for the past 27 years – Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour.

“Gold glitter, white tie”

This year’s dress code is “glitter, white tie” and the stars take replicas of HBO’s The Gilded Age, adorned with their best creams, ivory and gold. The Met Gala honors American designers this year with its theme “In America: An Anthology of Fashion,” a sequel to last year’s “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion.”

Reynolds and Lively were one of the first couples to come out on the carpet.

Lively wore a copper-colored Versace dress with geometric details on the bodice. The bow-like ornament transforms into a baby blue train with metal details as she climbs the stairs at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Her handsome Vancouver-born Ryan Reynolds wore an elegant velvet tuxedo – adhering to the theme of the white tie of the evening – with a chain hanging from his belt.

Billy Isle wore a Gucci look with lace mint green sleeves and an ivory skirt gathered at the waist. Her characteristic dark black hair was high on her head, and a black choker was fastened around her neck.

The pop singer he said Vogue that the clothing is made entirely of recycled materials. “I just wanted to be as environmentally friendly as possible,” she said on the carpet.

Janelle Monáe dazzled in a shiny Ralph Lauren dress with a colorful bib and hat. She wore a cuff in tone with the elegant dress without a back.

“It’s a gilded glow of the future,” the Tightrope singer told reporters.

The inner seam of his cloak – made by Japanese fashion designer Nigo – was decorated with blue and black floral designs. Cudi was full of euphoria with tear-like ornaments under her eyes.

Pickering-born Sean Mendes wore an elegant dark blue Tommy Hilfiger suit with matching blue nail polish, a black turtleneck and a gold button fastened at the waist. To keep from getting too cold, he wore a coat with a burgundy collar and sleeves.

Bright pink from head to toe: Marvel star Sebastian Stan has appeared in this monochrome piece by Valentino. In his bright neon jacket, pants and sneakers, Stan was not very suitable for a gilded sheen – but he still looked distinctive.

Wintour had arrived early on the red carpet. She wore a sequined skirt, a slit to the knee, and a poncho with pastel-colored feathers.

The Met Gala is a celebration of fashionable royalty – so it was appropriate for Wintour to wear a delicate tiara on her trademark blond bean.
