On Monday night, some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry gathered for the annual fundraising gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
This year’s Met Gala theme is “Guilded Glamor” and wears a dress code with a white tie, which means that the more sophisticated, the better.
Vogue said the gala concert asked those present “to embody the greatness – and perhaps the dichotomy – of the Gilded Age in New York.”
The gilded era of New York, in the late 19th century, was a period of rapid growth, both in terms of financial wealth and in terms of architecture. Fashion at that time was also very busy – a lot of fabric and ruffles, lace and bows.
And the stars did not disappoint tonight. Anna Wintour, queen of fashion and editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine, discarded her sunglasses for a tiara. Co-host Blake Lively wore a reversible dress that stopped the show, and future parents Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas appeared in complementary black and white outfits.

Along with all the luxury and glamor, there was a lot of fashion maximalism.
There were also many mind-boggling looks that will be talked about for days and weeks.
Gigi Hadid wore a monochrome ensemble that seemed to mimic the shape of the Met Gala stairs. Fashion entrepreneur Fredrick Robertson looked like a giant silver porcupine. And, of course, the presence of Pete Davidson and Kim Kardashian turned many heads, although their outfits were relatively gentle.
